At this moment I am enjoying my last module of the MBA program in Hult International Business School. It has been almost 11 months since I started my classes. It has been 7 months without seeing my family and now the moment to have a good break is coming. This break will give time me to relax at home, spend time with my friends, family and most importantly gave me energy to confront the difficult time of job hunting.
It's true that in the current situation most of MBA student find difficulties to find a job because most of the companies have frozen fresh hiring completely. Now people think twice to apply for a MBA program in a Business School. New students start to have the doubt if paying the tuition fees for the program, accommodation, and so on it is going to be a investment or a expenditure for his/her future, in other words, if this step is going to help them to change for a new career-path.
Yesterday I received a call from a recruiter of a technologic company based here in Dubai. I hope that this opportunity can be the open door to my future work experience in the Middle East. I am Spanish and for me, the visa is one of the main issues since it expired in one month. Now I have to be open to all the different job opportunities in Dubai because disappointing economical situation in Spain does not help manage my expenses. So I decided to pursue another option which is an internship even taking into account the experience that I have working in the same area. In the Middle East the opportunities to find a full- time job are very linked with the networking that you do during your program. Internships (3-6 months) are something unique that I can find in Dubai. Most companies in Dubai offer internships throughout the year and the interns do the same work as full-time recruits. It works well for the companies because they don't have to commit for a long term and they can employ people on project basis. In this downturn, the opportunities for internships have increased as companies don't want to commit to recruiting full-time employees.
Things are similar at other b-schools. I spoke with friends at other top schools as for example like IE in Spain and most people of the class of 2011 are in a difficult spot; It will be extremely difficult for people graduating this year to get their first choice; we might have to settle with our second/third choices right now.
